Lean Six Sigma Applications

When it comes to pushing the envelope on Lean or Six Sigma applications, we have no equal in Canada. Among our specialized applications are:

Lean for Design

Especially applicable to service facilities such as hospitals. Avoid the opportunity costs of bringing Lean expertise into a project well after the design is finalized. Geometric improvements can be made by employing basic principles from inception. Maximize them by applying our predictive modeling and simulation tools at the same time.

LEIMM™Lean Environmental Impact Mapping and Mitigation

Also referred to in the vernacular as Green Lean, LEIMM™ is EZSigma ‘s proprietary Lean methodology as it applies to the identification and management of inputs and outputs having local and external ecological consequences. An extension of conventional Value Stream Mapping, LEIMM is designed to isolate, quantify and mitigate the environmental impact of any service, administrative or operational process.

Starting and ending with the consumer of services and products, the “closed loop” topology of current and future state Value Stream Mapping, is ideally suited to the identification of environmental sensitive inputs and outputs.

LEIMM Value Stream Mapping and Impact Quantification

Further, EZSigma utilizes technology driven, certified algorithms to quantify indirect CO2 impacts, with the scientific rigor required to pass the scrutiny of formal Eco-audits. Audit-able results are the cornerstone of any Green Lean initiative, and indeed are necessary for compliance with the “C” (for Control) in the DMAIC Lean Six Sigma model.

LEIMM also extends Lean standards of practice by taking proven value stream concepts such as “hidden factory”, an invaluable diagnostic tool that distinguishes between necessary and unnecessary waste, and supplementing it with that of “Hidden Emitter™”.

LEIMM targets several of the eight wastes, particularly overproduction, re-work, motion and inventory. Its scope is broad, and in addition to the obvious benefits of reduced energy, water and materials consumption, encompasses VOCs (volatile organic compounds such as paints, solvents, chlorofluorocarbons, formaldehyde, nitrogen)and electromagnetic radiation.

In addition to the traditional measures of:

  • Cycle time…
  • Inputs per…
  • Outputs per…
  • Cost per…
  • Defects per…

LEIMM focuses on measures such as:

  • CO2 per…
  • Equivalent emission tax per…
  • $penalty per…
  • Cap credits per…
  • Energy units per…

Assessing the environmental impact of processes is not only good citizenship, it is good business. We know that both go hand in hand, and our clients are reaping the rewards.

LEAP™Lean Expedited Assessment Project

Developed for initial or exploratory adopters, LEAP engagements combine Lean management orientation for quick proof of concept improvements for a modest fee. Call us for our brochure. LEAP engagements may be scheduled for Municipalities and Hospitals.

ISO Certification Assistance

A successful organization is able to:

  • Offer products that satisfy a customer’s expectations
  • Agree with the relevant standards and specifications of a contract
  • Be available at competitive prices
  • To supply products or services at a cost that will still bring a profit to the organization

Above all a success organization provides quality products that will promote further business and recommendations.

These days in most markets purchasers are demanding proof that an organization is actually capable of what it claims. So how does an organization do that? The easiest and most recognized/usually accepted way is to work in conformance with the requirements of the ISO 9000 and/or 14000 series of standards. These standards provide guidelines for organizations to establish Quality Management and/or Environmental Management Systems.

A Quality Management System (QMS) based on the ISO 9000 series of standards encompass all the different levels of quality control and quality assurance that are required within the processes to ensure;

  • Doing it right the first time thus eliminating costly rework and waste
  • Meeting customer specification, and
  • Enhance customer satisfaction

The Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14000 series of standards is a non-regulatory, voluntary consensus standard. ISO 14001 as an adjunct to environmental regulations serves as a basis for “beyond compliance” incentives for industry. Initially it was considered that competitive and commercial pressure like contractual provisions and procurement guidelines were driving implementation of ISO 14001 EMS. However, organizations have realized that customer and supplier demand is only one variable. The determinative factor is in fact the internal use of ISO 14001 as the impetus for improving environmental performance to achieve greater cost efficiencies.

The EZSigma’s ISO Service program is designed to meet the needs of organizations wishing to implement

  • Quality Management System
  • Environmental Management System or an Integrated System

The focus of the EZSigma  ISO Service program is the “transfer of technology” enabling organizations to build their QMS & EMS in-house thus achieving ownership and sustainability.

The ISO Service program includes:

  • Full range of training courses
  • Hands on assistance to the organization’s trained staff in the development, documentation and implementation of the QMS and/or EMS
  • Gap analysis
  • Supervision of Internal Quality Audits, and
  • Assistance during third party Compliance Audit

Program Outline

Standard ISO 9001/14000 course offerings include the following:

  • Awareness & Interpretation
  • Documenting (standard)
  • Calibration
  • Internal Audit
  • Continuous Quality Improvement
